The gender distribution of ASD
The linkage of ASD with mitochondria is not by itself sex specific. Yet females seem to have some kind of protection against autism. BMCP1 is a mitochondrial uncoupler specific to the central nervous system, which is located on the X chromosome. I need to do the maths. But the basic idea is that if you're a girl, you get two X chromosomes, so double the chance of getting a BMCP1 that will work well with your mitochondria. Fructose and BMCP1/UCP5 |
